UCD Authors and UCD Archives pull up banners

UCD Authors was an initiative set up to highlight the many alumni and academic staff who have published work. The first author to kick off this series was Roddy Doyle who hosted a Q&A session in the Library Hub of James Joyce Library. For about an hour on Thursday the 12th November 2015, Roddy interacted with and answered questions from students about his working life and his many books including The Commitments, The Woman who Walked into Doors and The Giggler Treatment.

The first talk was a huge success with many students present to hear Roddy speak. More UCD Authors talks are expected in 2016.

In Autumn 2015, UCD Library acquired UCD Archives. I worked with UCD Archives to produce this pull up banner for them to be used at exhibition launches and roadshows. A warmed textured background was blended with an old photograph from the UCD Archives collection. The photograph was image traced in Illustrator to transform it to a vector and blend modes were used to marry the two together.

The first event that the banner was used for was an exhibition of Kevin Barry who was executed in 1920. You can find out more about Kevin Barry here: http://www.ucd.ie/library/finding_information/digital/kevinbarry/
